Week 2 -Create a Life of Meaning
• Why do you think Randy Pausch was able to achieve so many of his childhood dreams?
I think the reason that Randy Pausch was able to achieve so many of his childhood dreams was because he never gave up on them and was always looking for opportunities on how to fulfill those dreams. He also wrote them down in a journal and told people about them. So, his dreams were always in the forefront of his mind. He also didn’t allow other people to stand in his way of achieving his dreams. He also wasn’t afraid to quit his current job to jump on board another opportunity in order to achieve his dreams.
The thing that I took away from this speech was never give up, always look for opportunities and be willing to act on them. Leaps of faith are nearly a requirement to achieve your dreams.
• Do you feel that dreaming is important? Why or why not?
Dreaming is very important. It gives you that motivation you need to learn and grow as a person. Also, it can be an instrument to help other people learn and grow as people as well. I believe that going for your dreams can also give you a better, more fulfilling life. It also makes the world a better place as well because people who achieve their dreams may very well be able to change the world for the better one day, one dream at a time.
• Discuss at least one of your childhood dreams. Explain why you believe you can or cannot achieve this dream.
One of my childhood dreams was to go to Ireland before I was thirty years old. This dream has not happened yet, and I am now 40 years old. Many things happened to prevent it from happening. We as a family were supposed to go to Ireland a few months after my mission. I had some health issues that I had to overcome before I could travel. After that my dad had health issues that made him unable to travel and we had to put him in a lock down memory care facility.
My mom and I were going to go by ourselves a couple of years after this we even got our passports in order to travel overseas. My mom was then diagnosed with Kidney Cancer and was unable to travel. She is now 76 and her mobility has gone way down.
I think if I am going to be going to Ireland, I may have to go by myself. I have to think and pray about have I can accomplish this.
