Week 5 –Mastery—Skill, Character, or Luck?

 • What were your key takeaways from "A Hero's Journey" video?

Some of the takeaways I had for the video “A Hero’s Journey” were the following:

One, to achieve Mastery in any subject or sport or anything at all it will take thousands of hours of practice in one thing to master it and be come an expert in it. This means a person must be committed and disciplined to achieve mastery.

Also, Mastery in something does matter because people are willing to pay an arm and a leg an expert’s opinion but not for the opinion of the person on the street.

Two, some people take a lifetime to find their calling, their passion in life. But never give up on finding it. I found a passion for Family History at the young age of eight being guided by my parents. It wasn’t until 2019 when I had several breakthroughs in my own family history lines that I realized it was my life’s calling to help other’s and myself with their family history. I was even more ecstatic to find out that I could make money doing it.

I was all for it. Since then, I have been working diligently to become ‘thee expert’ in the Utah Territorial Prison System (because most of my research keeps bringing back to that every time) and an accredited Professional Genealogist. I have gone back to school to get a BS Degree in Family History Research, started my own family research business and wrote a book both while still in school.

I was very glad to know that after watching “A Hero’s Journey” that I am well on my way to mastering my calling in life. It will probably be a lifelong mastery journey as well because there will always be something to research or learn in my niche in family history and just family history in general.
