Week 6: So, You Want to Be an Entrepreneur?
There was a lot of information in this week’s studies and readings to absorb.
I liked in the article, “How Entrepreneurs Craft Strategies That Work”, it was stated that a business plan isn’t needed most of the time. But if you want one to make it very flexible because as an entrepreneur one must roll with the punches from day-to-day operation. If you have a very ridged business plan, then your business could crumble right under your feet.
I also liked the fact that it stated that one should talk to everyone you meet as prospective clients or investors. You never know who will be interested and who will not be. I have learned this principle lately with marketing my book. I talked it up for months before my book was published and I talked about it to everyone who would listen and am still doing that. And I have steadily made at least one sale a week just by opening my mouth.
Word of mouth is still the fastest way companies are made or destroyed.
I liked how in the video, “The Entrepreneur and the Family”, it was stated that if you have a family and run your own business you will have to find balance for both. And remember that your family should always come first, if that means working on your business after putting the kids to bed for a few hours, so be it. People always regret not spending more time with their young kids so make that a priority. Balancing a family and a business will also look different depending on everyone’s individual circumstances and needs.
The last video, “Loyalty to God and Family”, he talked about always accepting a church calling no matter how busy you are because it shows the Lord that he can rely on you. I also know from experience that you have a right to ask to be released from a calling after great consideration and counsel with the Lord in order to preserve your own mental health.
