The Last Three Months of My Entrepreneur Journey

I just realized today that I have not posted a blog in quite awhile. I have been very busy.     My Local Book Festival on 4 October 2025 went pretty well. Lots of networking and I sold two books. Any exposure is great. I have been doing a lot of leg work on getting my book more exposure. I have been able to get a free book sighing set up with the Barnes and Noble in Park City on Saturday, 15th of November.  I am very excited about this. I finished my end of helping a friend who wanted me to help gather her family stories the last week of October. I also finished an on going verification project for another client - 18 months later. Now, we can focus on the research part of this project. I found out that Wasatch County may be hiring a County Historian. I went in person and sent an email of my interest. Well, I was advised to look for the job posting in January 2026. They were not ready for my intensity I think.  I am okay with that, at least they know my na...

W14 Final Learning Journal

Which assignments, sections, concepts, or principles did you like best? The following are the concepts I liked best from this class and will probably use them in making my Family History Research Business, Coming Full Circle better: The Decision Matrix – I loved this concept. I love that I can compare three or more items and rank them before I decide on a course of action.   This can be used in any aspect of my life where I have serval options and then make a decision after comparing them. E-Myth- I actually liked reading this book. The concepts of the book will help me to not to become overwhelmed in my business. Financial Statements – I had a hard time figuring this out. However, once I did, I think that the projective income statement will help me in my own business. Advertising- This was actually kind of fun using AI to make advertisements. I am leery of AI but I am also excited to figure out how to use it to help my business. Ethics- I think that business e...

Small Business Creation- Week 10 - Refection Journal

E-Myth Part 2 - I was very intrigued by the Strategic Objective and its standards. Strategic Objective is what your business can achieve for you. The First Standard - Money, Gross revenue. The Second Standard- an Opportunity Worth Pursuing and the other standards are left up to us. I think this was the best concept I read about in chapters 12-19.  In my own business I am not really doing Family History work of money. I am doing it to help others and to fulfill my need to research family history to unravel a mystery. The money is to help me break even with the costs.  I do it because it's my passion and I can make money doing it. For me these two standards feed each other. Finding a Business to Partner- Finding a business partner is harder than I thought it could be. You must find someone who has the same vision and passion as you do in order to go into business with them. Case Study - Jamaican Family Robinson- I have learned from this Case Study never go in...

Graduation!!!!

I will be graduating with my Batchelor's of Science of Professional Studies in August 2025. Three certificates will be under my belt. 1. Family History Research 2. Advance Family History Research  3. Entrepreneurship It has been a wonderful four year journey.  Can't wait to work on my accreditation for becoming a professional genealogist through ICAPGen next year. I will be taking a break until January 2026 before tackling this new goal. In the meantime I will be busy enough with my current client load, promoting my current book, "Unraveling the Family Secret", and containing to work on my books.

A New Project From a Current Client!

A couple of weeks ago one of my long term Clients asked me to help he write a book about 5 or 6 generations of her family (stories of her ancestors' lives) for her children and grandchildren. I said "yes". I was very faltered and honored by it. We are using AI to assist in writing this book. I am very excited about this project.

Buying a Business Unit- Refection Journal- Week 7 of Small Business Creation

E-Myth Part 1 – The first thing I learned is that every one of us has a Technician, Manager and Entrepreneur in us. And all of them are fighting to see who gets to be in control. Second - to be a good business owner we should be all three equally and that will take time. Third - a business should grow naturally, or it is doomed to fail. I will have to take these principles and get out of my comfort zone and learn how to do things outside of my business to be able to help my business thrive. To help myself thrive, I need to be a well-rounded person. I will also need to know when it is time to hire other people and train them in their roles. Selecting a Business to Buy – My favorite thing I learned about buying a business is doing a Decision Matrix. I love that I set the criteria and then compare three or more business or ideas on the same spreadsheet. Then I can easily choose which one I think would be best for my goals. Case Study - Concrete Specialist Inc. – I learne...
